Did you know that what you eat is only half the story? Who you are as an eater is the other half. Wow! I think this is very useful information when navigating the nutritional world. Did you know that 99% who go on a weight loss diet put the weight back on within a year? The information that’s out there about losing weight sets us up for failure and is just unfair to our self-esteem. 

Let’s break this down into something that is more easily understood…

I believe that nourishment supersedes nutrition.

What is nutrition?

Nutrition is the actual nutrient quality you get when you eat a meal. It’s the grams of protein, carbohydrates and fat that enters your body through the food you eat. It’s calculated and controlled. It’s what dieters take note of when they look at food. Is this food going to make me fat? Am I getting enough protein? Are these the good carbs or the bad sugary carbs?

These are all valid points, but did you know that if you eat in a stressed state, your body can’t use the nutrients from that carefully calculated meal?

If you eat while distracted by the TV or your cell phone, or while stressing about work or how much fat is in your meal, your digestive system shuts down. Your cortisol and insulin increases, your body stores weight and fat and doesn’t build muscle.

How abut nourishment?

This is where nourishment comes in. Nourishment, is how you feel when you eat the meal. Did you enjoy the flavours and textures? Did you eat in a relaxed state, possibly with friends or family? Were you present and relaxed? If so, your digestive system is in full swing and you can better digest what you have eaten. You relax and that enables you to release weight and fat as well as build muscle creating a happier and healthier body.

Dynamic Eating Psychology looks at how food and body issues may just be gateways into something deeper

In other words, the Dynamic Eating Psychology system is all about your “food story.” Whereas eating psychology has traditionally focused on eating disorders, this new field is for anyone who eats.

It incorporates sustainable, results-driven strategies and techniques that make a real difference. And it’s an approach that embraces all of who we are as eaters – body, mind, heart and soul.

It’s a positive, uplifting and empowering eating psychology for everyone. It sees all of our eating challenges as a doorway to growth and transformation. And it honors the unique, fascinating, and ever changing experience of food and body that each one of us has.

Simply put, it’s what you think and feel. It uses strategies and techniques that can create a lasting metabolic difference.

​It’s the psycho-physiology of how digestion, assimilation, calorie burning, and all the nutritive functions of the body are impacted by stress, relaxation, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, pleasure, nourishment, awareness, meal timing, our personal story, and so much more. That to me is mind-blowing! We can alter the way our body uses food by changing our thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and stress around food.

This literally and scientifically impacts nutritional status in a powerful way! It means that I can create a healthy food story and relationship to food that is way beyond what society tells me is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ or that I’m allowed a ‘cheat day’. No! Eating goes way beyond this and it excites me. 

We were designed to find pleasure in eating. We are meant to enjoy it with family and friends. Let’s re-create our food story together to include joy and nourishment.
