In my previous article, I discussed how our thoughts directly affect our health. Let us now take a look at limiting beliefs, the body’s messages, and how we can change our thought patterns in order to assist our bodies to heal and maintain optimum health.
The limiting beliefs that we hold are only learned thought patterns and thoughts can be changed.
When we have heard, observed, or experienced something several times, our subconscious mind takes in the information and draws generalizations and conclusions. Even if these beliefs are false, they become our ‘truth’ and can negatively affect our health and severely limit us in living our best lives.
Our bodies, like everything else in life, are a mirror of our inner thoughts and beliefs. Our aches, pains and illnesses reflect our mental and emotional patterns. If we take the time to listen to our body’s messages, instead of simply trying to suppress the symptoms, we can become aware of the thought patterns within us that are contributing to our dis-ease.
How can we start to make changes?
Awareness of our limiting mental patterns is only the first step in the healing process. We then need to change our thoughts by developing new thought patterns. One way to do this is to flood our minds with new, empowering, positive thoughts, which counter our subconscious negative ones and, in time, entirely replace our old thought patterns. Positive statements or affirmations need to be used regularly in order to counteract the thousands of negative thoughts we have every day.
It is of interest to remember that the subconscious mind is not rational and cannot tell the difference between the real or the imagined. So even if we do not yet believe the affirmations, using positive statements persistently will permeate down into the subconscious mind and eventually transform our negative beliefs into positive ones. And as we choose to think differently, our physical body changes.
Pain and disease are therefore opportunities to grow! By listening to our body’s messages and becoming aware of our limiting thought patterns and then changing them into positive ones, we can assist our body in healing as well as start living our full potential.
In Louise Hay’s book, You Can Heal Your Life, she provides a comprehensive list of physical symptoms and illnesses and provides the probable mental or emotional causes of these health conditions as well as a new thought pattern to put into place. We also need to support our body in whatever other ways we can to assist in the healing process. There are many practical things we can do for our body’s health. These include nutrition, drinking more water, movement such as yoga, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, cleanses, supplements, and plenty of rest and sleep. If you have been given medication by a medical professional, continue with the medication until your body has healed itself and there is no further need for it.
