Anti-inflammatory green smoothie

As we study the human body, one of the most interesting parts of healing is the process of inflammation. This can occur when your body has experienced trauma, like a deep cut or an allergic reaction. Inflammation serves its purpose to keep your tissues protected and to signal that there has been damage, but it can also be a sign of the presence of toxins or an imbalance of some kind. Fortunately, there are a wide array of fruits and vegetables that you can add to your green smoothie for anti-inflammatory effects.

Spinach

This leafy green vegetable has been so unpopular with kids in the past that they created a cartoon character to help sell them on its healthy attributes. Spinach is a wonderful source of iron and other minerals, but one of its most important uses is to bring down inflammation. If you add a handful of spinach to your green juice recipe, you’ll have a greener, more powerful drink that can help you bring down any sort of sudden swelling that you might experience.

Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the most excellent sources of antioxidants called flavonoids that can help fight inflammation. They’re high in vitamins and contain chemicals that can help regulate your immune system. Blueberries add a delicious flavour to just about anywhere you choose to include them. Buying them in larger quantitie and freezing them makes sure you know where they came from and that you’ll have them available for your next drink.

Cherries

These tart red berries hold an excellent amount of necessary nutrients needed for joint health. Cherries contain antioxidants such as anthocyanins and catechins, which fight inflammation. They are associated with the ability to reduce swelling for people who suffer from some types of arthritis. Cherries can be an excellent treat for who benefits from reducing inflammation.

Celery

The simple celery stalk contains vitamin C, beta carotene, and flavonoids. It’s also a wonderful source of phytonutrients, which have been shown to reduce instances of inflammation in the digestive tract, cells, blood vessels, and organs. Celery is a stalky vegetable that is used as a flavour additive in many sauces and as a garnish on some dishes. It has a multitude of benefits that you can avail yourself of if you decide to make it a part of your juicing routine or include it in your green smoothie.

Papaya

This yummy fruit contains a naturally occurring, anti-inflammatory compound called papain. Papain has been proven effective at reducing joint pain, stiffness, and as such, is an excellent addition for anyone who suffers from arthritis. Papaya grows easily in tropical regions. People in these areas used the fruit to treat stomach issues and calm upset stomachs to improve digestion. Enjoy every opportunity to try this fruit in your favourite green juice or smoothie recipe.
