This is my go-to hormone-balancing breakfast smoothie. It can also be made into a delicious smoothie bowl. It’s a welcome everyday chocolatey treat!
Starting my day with good quality protein and fat works well. It balances my energy and prevents snacking or a late afternoon slump.
I’ve recommended it to countless clients and have had had such great feedback about how just adding this as their breakfast has helped change their whole food day.
You’ll notice that I don’t use a lot of fruit. You can adjust that to suit your body. My body and hormones prefer less sugar, so I’ve gradually changed my taste over the years. During the week I only use blueberries. On weekends we enjoy a choc mint smoothie. We add a small piece of banana, some raw cacao nibs and 2 drops of doTerra Peppermint essential oil. It’s delicious!
MAKES 1 SERVING
PREP TIME 5 MINUTES
- 1 Cup unsweetened plant milk
- Handful frozen kale or spinach
- 1/2 cup blueberries and / or 1/2 small banana
- 1-2 Tbsp coconut oil or MCT oil
- 1 Tbsp almond butter
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 Tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 Tbsp hemp protein powder
- 2-3 Tbsp raw cacao powder
- 1-2 tsp superfoods of choice ie maca, lucuma, moringa, mesquite, spirulina
- Extra water or ice to desired consistency. About 1 Cup
Optional: It’s easy to hide extra vegetables in your morning smoothie. Try half steamed and frozen cauliflower, courgette or cooked and mashed pumpkin. About 1-2 tablespoons
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
If you’re making a smoothie bowl use ice instead of the additional water. Decorate with cacao nibs. shaved coconut, chopped nuts, banana etc.
